12Days of Christmas Giveaways for eczema & allergy families

Allerchic is very proud to offer our community the chance to win THE most amazing gifts just in time for Christmas. Each day for the next 12days we are going to reveal a new prize.

Register now to win: Enter Here

See you all tomorrow when we announce our first amazing gift!

Monday 9 September 2013

We know its hard to find clothing for eczema that calms itching, is soft, comfortable & cool enough to wear in summer & tropical climates.

The clothing manufacturer who conducted a survey on our site recently advised us that “eczema clothing was not a good fit” for them. I know we need these garments & I'm determined to get them into production.

To do this we are running a crowd sourcing campaign, we only have 30 days & we need your help.

How does it work?
We need people to pledge money to the campaign. If the campaign reaches its target money will only then be deducted from the nominated account. If we do not reach the target no money is transferred & we cannot get these garments into production.

What’s in it for me?
All Allerchic Bamboo for Eczema Ambassadors will receive a set of Bamboo clothing, a permanent discount on all Bamboo Garments as well as the gifts stated on the campaign page if we reach the target.

What do I need to do?
Watch the campaign video, share it with your friends, family anyone who you think is interested in eczema relief & pledge. Once you or family & friends have pledged email me so I can register you as an ambassador. Email Steph at info@allerchic.com.au

Every pledge counts. Watch Here (Just 3min)

Thank you.

Alternative Treatment for Eczema

People in our community are constantly looking for & asking about Alternative Treatments for Eczema & Allergic Rashes. While I personally am more than happy to use steroid creams when prescribed (I have seen not only the clinical evidence but the written that there is no long term ill effect when topical steroids are used for short periods) I can understand why people are hesitant to use them.

Aside from the standard Goats Milk Soap, Oatmeal baths & taking a swim in the ocean there are other great options available. While these may not be suitable for everyone, Its great to know what options are available.

There has been strong evidence to suggest the use of Pro & Prebiotics can have a great effect on eczema, As can taking an Omega 3,6 & 9 preparation. Bamboo has amazing antibacterial & anti-fungal properties & is also temperature regulating which is great for people who itch when they get too hot or cold.

There is also Silver.
Silver has been used for hundreds of thousands of years for healing skin. In hospitals we have used silver bandages & creams to heal burns for years. Silver is also now available in clothing & we are seeing some Amazing results from people in the Allerchic Community.

The manufacturers Silversoothe TM share:
We are delighted to introduce our eczema nightwear range using the combination of 100% pure Organic cotton and 47th Element Silver technology. For thousands of years silver has been valued for the natural anti-bacterial properties it provides.

Did you know that Roman soldiers used silver to prevent the growth of bacteria in their water supplies? Today silver is recognised by NASA and hospitals for the ability to prevent infections and offer effective natural healing.
For some time we have been aware that silver in colloidal form is effective in the battle against itchy eczemaWith new nano-technology it is now possible to add silver ions to cotton fibres to ease the night-time itches.Cotton clothing is recommended by Dermatologists as being the best natural product, allowing eczematous skin to breathe, absorbing body moisture and wicking it away from the skin therefore helping to regulate body temperature.
We all have, and need, both good and bad bacteria on our skin, however, natural moisture can allow an overgrowth of bacteria and micro-organisms to develop and lead to allergic reactions and infections. It is well established that eczema is prone to secondary infection.
The natural silver ions in our nightwear remove bacteria overgrowth and prevent the spread of organisms and risk of secondary infection.

Holidaying with Allergies.....

When it comes to Holidays away with the family, How do you deal with your (or your child's) allergies or anaphylaxis?
Do you plan your holiday around food safety?  For example only book self contained accommodation where you can prepare the food yourself, Go to a tried & tested resort etc

A page I like recently asked the question, Would you ever go on a cruise? (having anaphylaxis)
Following this post there was a very fierce debate about how "safe" a holiday like this would be, in regards to the fact if anything was to happen that you are miles out to sea with usually only a medical team & phone direction to treat your anaphylaxis until Medical care could either be reached or you could be taken off the boat.

It got me thinking....
with multiple allergies & a few close calls this year I don't think this type of holiday is for me!

In the last 4years we have only had two incidents when eating out. Although we have multiple allergies in our family with 1 in 3 Aussies now having some form of allergy I have found most restaurants & eateries to be more than accommodating & so they should be. Lets face it its not great for business to have your diners carted away via ambulance fighting for their lives!

While prevention is ALWAYS better than treatment when it comes to anaphylaxis, I don't believe we should live in fear. Here are a few tips for Happy Holidays with Food Induced Anaphylaxis:
  • RESEARCH well, where you plan to go & stay, What are their allergy policies?
  • ASK lots of questions, about how the food for allergy sufferers is prepared.
  • BE polite, when you are anxious or concerned its easy to become demanding. You will find people are always more willing to be of assistance if you remember your manners!
  • TELL EVERYONE make sure everyone knows about your/your child's allergy & how severe it is.
  • ALWAYS carry your Epi-Pen with you & make sure you are confident in how to use it!
  • WEAR an allergy alert bracelet or T-Shirt to make sure your allergy is always on peoples minds.
  • ENJOY holidays create memories for life!

So go create some awesome memories for you & your family!
